Suckling The Teat
We’re driving over to our friends for an afternoon swim, and Shalin says, “The Antigym is… suckling the teat of life”
And I think she’s right!
But what’s it mean?!
What’s ‘suckling’ ?
And this ‘teat of life’ ?
______
Could it be that ‘suckling the teat’
is nothing more, nor less
than being HERE,
doing THIS…
and that we’re
LOST WITH IT,
GETTING DOWN,
DIVING IN…
NOT HAVING ANY REAL CLUE
WHERE IT LEADS
YET ENJOYING THE HELL
OUT OF THE PROCESS
AND EXPLORING WHAT IT IS
JUST TO SUCKLE ?
______
“To nourish the existence which nourishes us back.”
______
Because in a couple days, it’ll still be
NOW, or HERE, or THIS
just like in a couple weeks it will still be
NOW, or HERE, or THIS.
Is it that simple? Does
NOW + HERE + THIS +
NOW + HERE + THIS…
= Our Lives ?!?
______
I could go on and on and on, and talk about how the “mundane Wednesdays” are what it seems to be about (as Tim Urban wrote in his blog piece Life Is A Picture, But You Live In A Pixel).
Or I could bring up the movie Serendipity, where Jeremy Piven’s character [the writer] Dean Kansky remarks, “You know the Greeks didn’t write obituaries, they only asked one question after a man died ‘Did he have passion?’
Or I could quote John Bradshaw’s “Children are natural Zen masters; their world is brand new in each and every moment.”
______
Or…
I could
GET GRITTY!
TASTE IT!
MADLY!
And look for answers
IN THE DIRT!
And just be what I am…
Suckling.
The Teat.
of Life.
